Playtex 18 Hour Bra Review

This bra review is for the Ultimate Lift and Support, style 4745, Playtex 18 Hour Bra. Hanes/Playtex sent me two bras for review and this is the first of two.

Bra Herstory

Playtex bra from 1969.

Basically, if I am going out anywhere I turn to an underwire bra for shape and support. I strongly believe that every woman should have at least one good underwire bra in her lingerie drawer. But for the most part, you will find me in my wireless Coobie bra around the house.

When it comes to Playtex the vision in my head has always been the white sling shot my grandmother used to wear which really did little for looks (stark white) or support (improper fit) for different sizes.

Overall First Impression

With this first bra I was pleasantly surprised. The nude bra provided both lift, support and if I do say so myself a lovely shape. One of my main concerns with wireless bras is the uniboob appearance. I was especially impressed with the side shaping but it can still use a little work with between the breast shaping.

Features I Really Like

The bra strap is a little wider (something that is starting to become a standard I think) and has a pretty scallop edge on one side. The underside is soft and the straps did not slip off my shoulders even once!

It has a soft band all the way around which typically is an area I have a problem with being picky. It’s soft and all the stitches and seams are flat.

The clasp at the back is reinforced with a similar soft fabric that is on the band and is stitched flat with no pricking.

When it comes to affordability without sacrificing on workmanship we may have a winner here. The retail price for this Playtex 18 hour bra is $20.99 US but they go on sale on the One Hanes Place for $14.99 quite often.

Overall Final Impression

After four days of wearing this bra I am impressed. It is a pretty bra. It is a comfortable bra that does not bind or pick or budge. And it is more breathable (it’s hot and humid here) than I expected it to be. I just finished washing this bra in the delicate cycle of the machine with my regular wash and hung it to dry and it still looks great. I am actually looking forward to wearing it again.

Two things impressed me the most about this bra. The first was that it provided so much lift and shaping without the underwire. They still need to work on the inner breast shaping but overall an impressive bra that maintains its shape beyond the marketed 18 hours. Next is the quality of the bra matched with the affordability of price. My favorite underwire bra sells for $40 which really hurts to fork out even for a necessity.

I fell in love with this “ultimate lift and support” bra and highly recommend checking it out. Playtex has twelve different 18 Hour bras to choose from all with slightly different features. The next bra I will be reviewing is the 18 Hour Back and Side Smoothing bra.

  1. Playtex 18 Hour Bra: Horrid bra ! Definitely not soft nor comfortable. Shocked such a well-known brand has sunk this low. USA company but made in El Salvador. Has lots of good features, but the fabric chafes the skin immediately; couldn’t wear it for one minute. Buyer beware.

  2. I love my 18 hour bras and I have tried a lot of other bras…this is the one i always return to as a 36 DD gal. I don’t spill over top or fall out from under. It’s great support with no underwire.
