Fat-kini Fun in the Sun

What do you get when you combine a fat person and a bikini? A Fat-kini!

Two piece bathing suits for plus size women have been around for over a decade, tankinis are so popular because they are easier to get in and out of; especially when they are wet and for the most part they provide complete coverage. Not to mention you do not have to get completely naked to go to the bathroom.
The unfortunate thing about two piece swimwear was that you usually had to buy them as a set, now more and more companies are selling mix and match pieces so if you are a different size on top or bottom you can now order the right size.
If you are not comfortable with the tiny brief and top or you happen to be feeling mildly self conscious you can wear a full brief or or a skirted brief (or a swim short — Hydro Chic) instead of the full bikini look. Or get all three for your swimwear wardrobe to mix up a bit.
My favorite bikini tops are the ones that look like bras — they have underwire for shape and support and they come in pretty patterns. I love the idea of being able to mix patterns or to have a pattern on top and solid on the bottom or vice versa.
The plus size bikini has been around in indie shops for a few years now but this year it made it into to mainstream stores like Lane Bryant (and quickly sold old).
Places to still look for plus size bikinis are:

Whether you choose to go with a bikini or stay with your one piece, enjoy the sun (with sunscreen) and the water this year without giving thought to your weight.
