How to Celebrate Valentine's Day Alone

Guess what else is celebrated on February 14th besides Valentine’s Day? Singles Awareness Day. I kid you not. According to Wiki, S.A.D. celebrates “people who are single, that is, not involved in a romantic relationship”. There is nothing wrong with being single. Some people choose to be single throughout their lives. There is absolutely no reason to wallow because you are single — it is a stage in life most people go through. Celebrate your singleness today by:

  • Reading a dirty book — suggestion: Anais Nin.
  • Having a luxurious bubble bath and enjoying the fact you will not be interrupted and do not have to share the bathroom with someone else.
  • Painting your toe or fingers with some fancy nail art — YouTube is full of videos on how to’s. Just do a search for “nail art”. There is something for all tastes and talents.
  • Baking yourself something you would not normally take the time to do; like a black forest cake.
  • Taking a walk in a country park and taking pictures.
  • Getting all your single friends together for a martini party (have a designated driver or have everyone bring PJs and stay over).
  • Going out to dinner and watching all the suckers in relationships; enjoying the fact that most of them will probably fail. Too dark?

February 14th is just one day out 365. Being single or attached should both be celebrated because they are both important stages in our lives and they both make us into the people we are — if you are alone today enjoy your singleness.

Grey seems to be a hot color from everywhere from home decor (towels, paint, pillows…) to clothing (it has transcended the new black slot to become a featured color).
