Blue Velvet

When I got married I made all my bride’s maids wear short wine velvet dresses. I chose something they could always wear again and they’ve thanked me for it. plus size blue velvet top from Igigi
Sure it was my day but they were forking out the money and I wanted them to be happy and comfortable. I loved those dresses (so did they) and always wished I had gotten one at the same time. I’ll have to dig out a picture to show you during wedding season.
Anyway, today’s fave item comes from plus size dress maker extraordinaire Igigi except it is a top. And it’s one of my favorite colors, cobalt. Blue velvet. Don’t you just love how it rolls off your tongue. Of course Isabella Rossellini comes to mind but I’m getting off track today.
The neckline of the “Velvet Wrap Jacket in Cobalt” (50670CBT) is plunging but not too revealing and I love the bell sleeves. It is also stretch velvet so there’s no binding. It comes in sizes 14 to 32 for $69.

I do NOT ascribe to the theory (or “rule” if you like) that fat chics shouldn’t wear horizontal strips. I love horizontal stripes almost as much as I love polka dots. They are celebrating the best styles of our past: the tailored suits from the fifties, the bohemian freedom of the sixties, the color blocks of the seventies, the geometric eighties, and the minimalism of the nineties . Here are my top three items from…

    70s Inspired Pleats

One of the hottest trends this season is mini pleats. It’s part of that whole retro kick that we seem to be heading into whether we want to or not. I actually like this trend, from a non-hog-wild perspective anyway. One of two pieces are more than enough to satisfy the desire. When I started…

  • White Maxi Dress

I absolutely love the new white “classic maxi dress” from Sealed with a Kiss. They have it listed as an evening gown but it is too casual looking for that. It’s definitely a beautiful summer day dress that could be dressed up or down with accessories. I’d love it with a ruffed up denim jacket…

  • Sweet Day Dresses

Three things make eShakti a sweet place to shop for day dresses. Number 1, they will make slight alterations for a better fit for only $8. Number 2, they offer free shipping on orders over $100. And number three, the huge selection of day dresses to choose from. There are more but those are the…
