Birthstone Jewelry

When I think of birthstone jewelry I think of my grandmother’s ring with the different colored stones representing each of my aunt’s and uncle’s births (she had 6). I was born in December and while blue topaz/turquoise are both pretty I always wanted to be born in another month so I could have a different color — like ruby or sapphire.
A growing trend this season is wearing jewelry with your own birth stone. Try to look beyond the traditional ring and find your birthstone in necklaces and earrings both with and without genuine stones.
If you are not sure what your stone is here’s the list of recognized birth stones for each month and their basic meaning:

  • January – Garnet (protection)
  • February – Amethyst (sincerity)
  • March – Aquamarine [traditional – bloodstone] (wisdom)
  • April – Diamond (innocence)
  • May – Emerald (rebirth)
  • June – Pearl [traditional – moonstone] (wealth)
  • July – Ruby (passion)
  • August – Peridot (friendship)
  • September – Sapphire (purity)
  • October – Opal (hope)
  • November – Citrine [traditional topaz] (loyalty)
  • December – Blue Topaz [traditional turquoise] (success)

Here are some of my favorite examples, all handcrafted by artists on Etsy (it was especially hard to limit to one example per month):

These Etsy Designs:

  • A. Opal Ring, $56 – SilverCrush
  • B. Blue Topaz Bracelet, $250 – TforEdgar
  • C. Diamond Ring, $28 – Radness
  • D. Moonstone Necklace, $70 – JenniferCasady
  • E. Garnet Bracelet, $50 – KSInspirations

  • N. Ruby Rose Necklace, $25 – LinkelDesigns
  • O. Amethyst Hairpins, $50 – StarFlowerSilver
  • P. Bloodstone Earrings, $10 – PrJewells

You’ll find a variety of price ranges from crazy affordable and up. For the best search results start with the stone of choice and follow with ring, necklace, or earrings. For an even narrower search try adding the word genuine.
Happy birthday!
