  1. I’ve been to Egypt & Turkey and ALL the belly dancers there actually have bellies and hips. It’s only the US that the women are thin. Nice to see the ‘tradition’ being adopted here!

Don’t know if it was the US or not that stuck the taboo of women with curves doing bellydancing but songs and poems were written back in the day about the women of curves when they did the dancing. Perhaps this is just another way that American stereo type is making women that aren’t a size 8 feel less than a woman. I’ve just been blessed in knowing some wonderful bellydancers in Roanoke each year in February that have helped me realize I *can* look good while doing something I love to do even if I’m not of the ‘acceptable’ mainstream size 🙂
