Quote: Billy Wilder

Here’s a weekend quote to journal about:

“You have to have a dream so you can get up in the morning.”

  1. I don’t remember my dreams these days, so I would rather not get up. Perhaps I will go to bed early tonight just to see what happens.

  2. I think he’s referring more to the dreams we have in waking life. But on the topic of sleeping dreams. Maybe if you go to bed with the intent on remembering you’ll remember something. Have a bedside journal also helps for remembering if you wake up in the night to jot down a few notes. I’ve always been a lucid dreamer myself up until I started having seizures a few years ago, so now not so much. I think you’ve hit on a topic you can write about though. A character that doesn’t dream!

  3. Hi, Moe–
I kinda meant the waking ones, but I also don’t remember dreams I may have at night much. I was cryptic and not in a positive mood. I just began having a journal next to my bed, and I think that will help for either type of dream. I like your idea of a character who doesn’t dream, also. I’ll have to think about that.

  4. I took the quote as meaning, “you have to have dreams” as in, “have goals in life” your dreams are your the future, giving you reason to get up in the morning.

  5. I definitely agree with that! But I guess depending where we are when we read it they can mean different things, as Caroline pointed out.
That’s one of the reasons why I like to refer to quotes for writing. They can be taken at face value for personal journaling or be a motto for a new character. So many more uses. Thank you for commenting!
