Dirty Dozen Fridays Writing Prompt

Has another hoax created so much panic as the one in Queens in October, 2009? The fear affected everyone – the denim jeans crowd as well as the coat and vest elite.
An email had been sent under the name of a respected security analyst. He predicted a devastating slide in portfolio values which might linger as long as 5-7 years. The fear went viral within 12 hours. In my years as a reporter, I have never witnessed a phenomenon spread so rapidly, with harmful effects to so many people.
The name of the suspect has not been released, but the tide of resentment continues to rise daily.
Finally, a bit of the truth has come out. Police have a man in custody. The man reportedly suffers from a deep psychosis.
I have never been a fan of stock market investments. This episode has reinforced that conviction.
