Movie Fridays Writing Prompt
Last week the military’s “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” (DADT) rule for military homosexuals was classified as a “discriminatory law” and abolished. Within hours a young man in the military made this video of himself calling his father back home to tell him he was gay for the first time. Watch the video and then write about your emotional response to it, OR write a short story about someone coming out after the DADT announcement, OR write a non-fiction piece about the pros and cons of coming out to family members and friends, OR whatever else you are inspired to write.
This is a remarkable video.. It’s amazing how you had such courage to make the phone call, wether its a phone call or letting them know in person. You still took liberty to let them know the truth its great. I’m a lesbian, and I LOVE WOMEN. 🙂 my mother’s a lesbian as well, thats who gave me the courage to be who it is i truly am and to never back down in love. My father sadly didnt take it as well as yours did, I havent spoken to mine in just about a few years now. Hopefuly soon, he will come around. Thank you, for taping this emotional yet strengthening video for all to see. CONGRATS! out and proud<3
