Your Goal for the Week

Determine your goal for the week then post reminders of it around the house. I am totally serious about this. Do not worry what the rest of the household thinks. Right now, create at least eight mini banners with your goal on them and tape them around the house.

Most writers have post-it notes in a drawer and they are paint-sticky-friendly (and reusable). If you do not have any post-it type notes then go out and buy a cheap pack from the dollar store today!

Post your goal for the week in all the places you look at often:

  • The computer monitor frame.
  • The lamp on your bedside table.
  • The mirror in your bathroom.
  • The fridge door, right at eye level.
  • The microwave door.
  • At least one cabinet in the kitchen (2 or 3 if you have a big kitchen).
  • Above the TV.
  • Where you sit in the living room.
  • The light switch.
  • The inside of your wallet.
  • Where you hang your keys.
  • Inside of front door.

The notes can be all the same or all different. They can be the large 3 x 3 size or the 2 x 1.5 size. Same color or different colors. Up to you.

The point is to keep your writing goal in your thoughts throughout the day and not the last five minutes before you go to bed and decide you are too tired to write.

Keep it conscious, keep your mind attached to your goal throughout the day and you will be more likely to start thinking creatively about your project and making time to work on it. When you do get to pick up that notebook or sit down at the computer you will be ready to work because your project has been on your mind.

Now go post your goal for the week.
