The Curvy Shopper: Jenny Allen

Jenny Allen – A Little Blog Told Me

Jenny Allen is size 16 and lives in the USA. During the day she works as a Plus Size Model and Voice Over Artist. She runs a cute site called …a little blog told me.

What is your greatest concern about online shopping?

Jenny Allen, former Ford Model and blogger.

My biggest concern with online shopping is always fit. If a site lists simple sizes rather than measurements, I won’t even think about ordering. The thing is, ALL bodies vary; and plus size fit considerations offer additional challenges ~ particularly in the bust, hips and torso. Measurements are a must!

Quality assurance (I am a big reader of customer reviews) and return policy (always check before purchasing) are also important.

What is your greatest concern about shopping locally?

I enjoy shopping locally and supporting my hometown economy. But I do wish the shops nearby had more choices for plus women and tall women. I am 6′ tall and all legs. I can always find a cute top; but I own exactly ZERO pairs of pants.

What is your favorite store to shop locally?

I really enjoy shopping the TJX Company stores–TJ Maxx, Marshall’s and Homegoods. I find trendy designer bags and accessories on the cheap, and can usually find nice basics for my wardrobe. Shoes are a little harder, as my feet “go to 11”.

What are your top three online stores to shop?

I enjoy looking online more than shopping online. I will often research an item, then hit the stores to find it, touch it and try it. But I DO make occasional online purchases.

Zappos is a favorite source for footwear. They have a terrific selection of larger sized shoes and a liberal return policy. With their shipping policy, you can literally try them on in the comfort of your own home ~ for free.

JC Penny‘s is another go-to shop for me. Oftentimes, items I see in the physical store are only offered in plus sizes online (occasionally in “tall,” too). Penney’s also has a comprehensive fit chart. And, on the off chance that something doesn’t work, I have the option of making returns via mail or in-store. Pretty convenient.

eBay is probably where I spend the most time shopping online. For everything. It takes a special kind of patience; but results can be very satisfying. ~ You’ll need to allow a little extra time for reading the fine print. But, if you’re lucky, you’ll find a great seller who provides all the detail you need to make a smart purchase. And, if you’re really lucky, you’ll steal the deal!
