Once Upon a Fat Monster

A few weeks ago an online “friend” (a.k.a. someone I stalk on all my social networks) started posting pictures of stamps she made — she carved them, dipped them in ink and applied them to paper. It is a little more complicated than that but you get the gist. The theme she is currently working on is mystical monsters (although I really don’t consider most of them to be monsters) that she has fat-ified.
The artist in question is Marianne Kirby a funky plus size woman who is the voice behind The Rotund — one of the first fat blogs I ever started reading. She is also a regular contributor at xoJane and a co-author of Lessons from the Fat-o-sphere: Quit Dieting and Declare a Truce with Your Body. All this with insanely long nails.
I instantly fell in love with her centaur. Being a Sagittarius myself and for $15 (plus an affordable $5 for shipping) I couldn’t say no. As much as I love the red I am a blue girl through and through which wasn’t a problem. The 9 x 12 sheet arrived in a stiff boarded envelope all decorated with pretty stamped snails on the back and a whale on the front.
My fat monster print arrived all dressed in snails and paper tape.
Inside was my Etsy invoice and my heavy card stock print securely taped between the paper board and a lighter sheet of paper.
Caution fat monster inside!
I love it. Love the color too which I would call more teal than blue — but still blue in my book. I will probably cut it down to 8 x 10 to frame and hang in my office.

The only thing I am disappointed about is that there is no artist signature or print number. It would have been a nice touch.

I highly recommend checking out Marianne’s Etsy shop where you will find other prints in this size as well as note cards. There are fat harpies, fat mermaids, fat lamia and fat centaurs waiting to be purchased as individual prints and sets.

    Writing and Wasps

About a month ago I was cleaning up my back patio. Next thing I know, these little things were sticking me with needles. I finally realized it was wasps.
