Is pandemic boredom setting in? Are you getting a little tired of scrolling through Netflix? Want to be entertained and learn something this year? Now is an excellent time to check out the MasterClass series. Their topic selection has grown so much over the last year with interests relating to food, design, arts, music, writing, science, lifestyle, wellness, business, sports, and more.

MasterClass instructor N. K. Jemisin

Future learners can sign up for an annual fee ($240 CAN / $180 US) and get their choice of classes to take. There is no limit on the number of classes either! Learners get access to all classes. If one week you are feeling creative the choice could be photography, or maybe the next month a cooking class or leadership skills. And there is a full refund within 30 days if you decide you are not getting your money’s worth.

One of the things I like about their platform is their mode of learning. Each of the lessons are produced into short and sweet 10 minute increments that are easy to digest and fit into any schedule whether you are at home or on the road. They can be streamed on whatever device you are using most at the moment.

MasterClass gives a new way to connect with your favorite celebrities as well as seeing many of them in a new role, Teachers! At the moment, two classes that especially pique my interest are:

Writing MasterClass

The first class that piques my interest is N.K. Jemisin Teaches Fantasy and Science Fiction Writing. The three time Hugo award winning author is the writer of the Broken Earth Trilogy (Amazon.ca / Amazon.com). I have often wondered about the work that goes into creating new cultures and histories. Her class teaches how to create a world from scratch and develop its characters.

Music MasterClass

And since I am learning to play the ukulele, Jake Shimabukuro Teaches ‘Ukulele is definitely of interest to me. Jake is so exuberant about the ukulele and it is contagious. I know I will never be able to play like he does but I’m sure I could pick up a few tricks that would help me on my own musical journey.
